Dialup Connection Setup
Windows
95/98 Setup Instructions
- Double click 'My Computer'
on your Desktop.
- Double click 'Dialup Networking'
inside My Computer.
- Double click on 'Make New Connection'.
- You will be asked to type a name for
the computer you're dialing. Type in 'gcccomputers.com'
and click 'Next'.
- Put the dialup number in the appropriate
boxes. If you're using the toll-free number, put the whole
toll-free number (18666633679) in the second box and put
888 in the area code box.
- Click 'Next'.
- Click 'Finish'.
- You will see the new icon, 'gcccomputers.com',
in Dialup Networking. Use your mouse to
click on it, using the Right (second) mouse button. A little
menu will pop up. Left click on the menu item that says
'Create Shortcut'.
- A message will come up asking you if
you wish to place the shortcut on the desktop. Click 'Yes'.
- Right click on the 'gcccomputers.com'
icon one more time and go to 'Properties'.
- Find a check box that says 'Use
Area code and Dialing Properties'. Uncheck it if
you're using the toll-free number or if your local calling
area does not require area codes to dial local numbers.
- Click on the 'Server Types'
tab.
- Find a check box that says 'Log
on to Network'. Uncheck it. All other checkboxes
are okay.
- Click 'OK' until you
are back at Dialup Networking.
- Close Dialup Networking
and My Computer.
- Go to 'Start' and then
'Settings' and then 'Control Panel'.
- Double click on 'Internet Options'.
- Click on the 'Connections'
tab at the top.
- Make sure that there is a black dot
next to 'Always dial my default connection'.
- Left click on 'gcccomputers.com'
to highlight it. If 'Default' is not in
parenthesis next to gcccomputers.com, click on the 'Set
Default' button.
- Click 'OK'.
- Close Control Panel.
You can now double click on
'Internet Explorer' on your Desktop to get
on to the Internet. You will be asked for your username and
your password. Be sure to remember the '@gcccomputers.com'
suffix on your username!
Windows
2000/XP Setup Instructions
- Click 'Start' to open
up your Start menu. Click 'Control Panel',
and then 'Internet Options'. (to find Internet
Options when using Windows XP, you may need to click 'Switch
to Classic View' on the left hand side).
- Click on the tab at the top labeled
'Connections'.
- In the white box labeled 'Dialup
and Virtual Private Network Settings', check for
any old connections from previous Internet providers. If
there are none, continue on to step 4. If there are some
there, highlight them one by one by clicking on them with
the left mouse button one time, and then click the 'Remove'
button to the right. Make sure to remove all old connections!
- Click the button labeled 'Setup'.
- Click 'Next'.
- Make sure the black dot is by 'Connect
to the Internet', and then click 'Next'.
- Make sure the dot is by 'Setup
my connection manually', and then click 'Next'.
- Make sure the dot is by 'Connect
using a dialup modem', and then click 'Next'.
- You will be asked for the name of the
ISP. Type 'gcccomputers.com', and click
'Next'.
- You will be asked for the phone number
to dial. Enter it as it would need to be dialed, and then
click 'Next'.
- You may see a screen asking you whom
to allow to use the connection. If you see this, click 'Next'.
If you do not, continue on to step 12.
- Type your username in the Username box.
Make sure that you include the '@gcccomputers.com'
on your username. Then type your password in the Password
box. Then click 'Next'.
- Click 'Finish'
(or, if it asks if you want to set up your mail account,
select no, and then click next and finish).
You can now double click on
'Internet Explorer' on your Desktop to get
on to the Internet. You will be asked for your username and
your password. Be sure to remember the '@gcccomputers.com'
suffix on your username!
